About the Cosmo

The Cosmo opened its doors November 2023, aiming to contribute to the revival of the DIY scene in Champaign Urbana and start a queer and woman owned venue in a male dominated environment. We wanted to be focused on two things- music and building the community.

We have since moved our DIY mindspace to a brick and mortar location in the Lincoln Square Mall. With the closure of major music venues in the Champaign Urbana area, we felt the need for another locally owned and operated space built on the same values as before.

Opening a permanent venue is a huge undertaking. While we have poured countless hours, energy, and resources into making this dream a reality, these final steps require additional funding to help cover essential opening costs. Such as operating expenses, inventory, supplies, staffing, and the costs of getting the venue ready to welcome guests.

We are asking the community for help getting started. Every contribution, whether it is $5 or $50 can help us open the doors and continue creating a space that belongs to everyone.

The Cosmo Urbana has always been built by the people who've shown up and contributed to the community. The artists who play, the volunteers who help, the people who attend shows, and everyone who believes that independent music spaces matter.
